High School: Robert F. Munroe High School in 1976.lettered in football and golf for 4 years and was named to the All State Team as a senior linebacker.
Coaching Experience: 1982 at Deland High School as a defensive backs coach. In 1984, I was named defensive coordinator. In 1988, Deland High split into Deltona High School, and I served in the following capacities at Deltona High School; defensive coordinator, offensive coordinator, and head coach. In 2000, I returned to Deland High School and I have participated in the following positions; defensive coordinator,
special team coordinator, linebacker coach, defensive back coach and at present, assistant head coach.

Personal: I was born in Quincy, Florida June 2, 1958. I have 2 brothers, and 2 sisters. We grew up on a farm and
our parents got their moneys worth, as we earned our 3 meals a day. I graduated from FSU, where I served as a student assistant under Bobby Bowden and defensive coordinator, Jack Stanton.  In 1982, I married my wonderful wife, Mince, from Tampa Florida. We have 2 children; John Thomas, 2006 graduate of Deland High School and Kaylin, a senior at Deland High School. I love  outdoor activities, especially hunting and fishing. I also love the direction that head coach Kevin Pettis has our football team moving, and we will place a team on the field that will make you proud. Go Bulldogs!

Wife Maritza married 34 yrs, 3 children Brian, Danny ( both played football at DHS), daughter Amanda, 2 grandchildren Caleb and Jeremiah. Three generations of Calkins have played football for DHS.
